Sprotta, 2004, series of 13 photographs, analog C-Prints, each 50 x 60 cm, edition of 5
The series was taken during a longer stay in the East German village of Sprotta. The photos are inspired by the atmosphere of a place that appears to be in a proper state, full of harmony and domestic activity where everyone has their place and duty. There’s an analytic moment in the foreground, yet while the camera just registers the social settings and the daily routines of the people, they seem to act unreal and are turned into fictional characters of a movie. Sprotta pauses for a moment and becomes the result of my own construction of a world very much at stake with its anxieties, dreams and wishes.
