‘Belgravia – Relics of the Future’. A site-specific installation at Emmanuel Post Contemporary Art, Berlin.
Like the brand name Porsche, Belgravia, one of the richest districts of London, stands for a high standard of living, financial potency, and the power of capital. While the financial crisis reached its peak with the bankruptcy of the investment bank Lehman Brothers in autumn 2008, Jan Stradtmann photographed Porsche sports cars in the streets of Belgravia at night. The scenery of the typical upper-class fortified residential complexes in West London – adorned with architectural status symbols of perished civilizations – converts the sports cars parked in front of them into relics of a supposedly better era.
